Sekondi, May 30, GNA - The Association of Catholic Teacher Trainees (ACTT) has added its voice to the appeal to members of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to return to the classroom, to end the anxiety, uncertainty and fear that had gripped students. The association also urged the government to listen and respond favourably to the grievances of NAGRAT to bring peace and tranquillity needed for effective teaching and learning.
These were contained in a communiqu=E9 signed by Mr Patrick Mara Arthur and Mr Leeward Agyei Frimpong, national chairman and national secretary of ACTT respectively, after a three-day ACTT national executive meeting at Sekondi on Sunday.
The meeting discussed reports on its activities, evaluated the plan of action for the year and planned the forthcoming national congress to be held in August this year, which would be under the theme: "Five Years of ACTT-The Way Forward".
The ACTT expressed grave concern about division among members of the teaching profession, and entreated the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and NAGRAT to work together to improve service conditions of all categories of teachers.
The association expressed its appreciation to the government for considering upgrading Teacher Training Colleges to diploma awarding institutions.
It suggested to the authorities to organise programmes for Certificate "A" teachers to upgrade their certificates to diploma. The communiqu=E9 said members abhorred examination malpractices in all forms and would lead the crusade against the practice to improve education.
