Ericson AB Ghana branch on Friday donated 150 pieces of laptops to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to be distributed to the Millennium Schools in the metropolis.

The Airtel mobile communication network has also assured the AMA of providing broadband for the schools to access the internet.

Mr Maher Maarouf, Chief Operations Officer at Ericson said the donation forms part of their corporate responsibility to help the AMA in its efforts of enhancing education.

He hoped that the schools would make good use of the Laptops to improve teaching and learning.

Mr Donald Gwira, Head, Corporate Communication of Airtel, Ghana, said their gesture was to support the students and teachers to access information on the internet to broaden their scope of teaching and learning.

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Chief Executive of AMA, receiving the items, expressed gratitude to the two companies for their assistance to the teachers and students.

He said the AMA was not only interested in providing school infrastructure, but to also ensure that the necessary logistics are provided to change the face of education in Accra.

“We are making sure that Information Technology (IT) becomes part of teaching and learning and therefore the donation falls in line with that purpose,” he said.
