Accra, March 24 GNA - The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday requested the leadership of the various hawkers associations to furnish it with the names and pictures of their members to help the Assembly in its relocation exercise.

It was expected that the programme would provide the Assembly with adequate information and movements of the hawkers to check them from returning to the pavements, Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, AMA Chief Executive, told Journalists at his Office in Accra.

The group include United Petty Traders Association, Positive Change Petty Traders and Katamanto Petty Traders Association.

He urged the vendors to join any of the associations of their choice to make the exercise successful.

Mr Adjiri Blankson also expressed concern about the utterances of some hawkers at the People's Assembly at which they accused the AMA of not being sensitive to their plight.

He said the AMA would continue to pursue the decongestion exercise, adding: "The assembly is wide-awake and prepared to go all out on the agenda it has set for itself".

The Mayor cautioned that the Assembly would confiscate stray animals and owners would pay a penalty before collecting them. He called for a collaborative effort between the AMA and the large businesses in the City to solve the sanitation problem. 24 March 05
