Ashaiman, Dec. 12, GNA - The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman,=

has pledged to give 50 per cent of his share of the MP's Constituency Fun= d to be instituted next year for infrastructural development of Ashaiman Senior High School (ASHAISEC).

Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi made the pledge in a speech to mark the 20th Anniversary and Fourth Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the school in Ashai= man on Saturday. He expressed dissatisfaction about the deplorable infrastructure and=

other development challenges of the school. The MP urged the students to study hard in order to become responsib= le adults to Ghana in future. Mr Agbesi challenged residents of Ashaiman to uphold discipline, law=

and order so that the good name of the Municipality could be propagated b= y all and sundry.

Mr Emmanuel Dei Tumi, Chief Executive Officer of Future Leaders International, a non-governmental organisation and a motivational speaker= , noted that the future prospects of Ghana rest on the youth and not in the=

oil and gas industry. He, therefore, urged society to invest in quality education for the Youth. Mr Tumi charged the students to avoid mediocrity and rather believe in themselves, adding that whatever they conceived in their minds, they coul= d do. "For a man who wants to become great, it doesn't matter where he is coming from," he stressed. Mr Emmanuel Ofoe Fiemawhle, Headmaster of the school said 20 years i= n the life of an educational institution like ASHAISEC, was no mean an achievement, and could, therefore not pass without stock taking. He said the theme for the anniversary: "Accessibility to Quality Education-Parity in Resource Distribution", was carefully chosen to refle= ct the challenges the school and many other schools had gone through, in the= ir attempts to give quality education to their students.

Mr Fiemawhle paid glowing tribute to the First Headmaster, Mr. C. M.=

Amekugee of blessed memory, for his vision, foresight and determination, which he said, had brought the school this far. He explained that the late Mr Amekugee worked from a store room whic= h served as his bedroom and also a kitchen, and doubled as accountant, security man and school driver. The Headmaster stated that from a modest beginning of two members of=

staff and 30 students, the school could now boast of a teaching staff of 65, non-teaching staff of 22 and a student population of 1,512. He outlined a number of achievements and successes chalked by the school in the fields of academic, sports, discipline, and Co-curricula activities. Mr Fiemawhle said the biggest challenge of the school was infrastructure, such as classroom accommodation, library, the lack of a well-equipped science laboratory and hostel. He appealed to the education authorities to help save the school's l= and at Zenu near Ashaiman, from encroachment.

Master Emmanuel Osei, Senior School Prefect, appealed to stakeholder= s to support efforts to develop ASHAISEC. Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, who chaired the occasion called on parents to invest in the education of their children. Deserving and hard working students and staff were awarded with priz= es, with Master Benjamin Logosu, receiving the Over-all Best Student Award.
