Accra Technical University (ATU) is gearing up to welcome the nation’s finest young debaters as it takes on the mantle of hosting the 2025 Ghana Universities Debate Championship (GUDC).

Scheduled for Monday, October 6-11, 2025, the tournament will transform ATU into the heartbeat of intellectual exchange and competitive debating.

Since its inception, GUDC has stood as the most prestigious debating tournament in Ghana, providing a platform where students sharpen their reasoning, public speaking and teamwork skills while engaging with the most pressing issues of our time.

The 2025 edition will be historic; not only for the scale of participation expected but also because it marks ATU’s first time hosting the national championship.

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Dr Martin Owusu Amoamah, described the hosting rights as both an honour and a responsibility.

“For Accra Technical University, hosting GUDC is more than just organizing a competition; it is about creating a stage where intellect meets leadership and where young people find their voice.

“We are committed to ensuring that GUDC 2025 leaves a lasting legacy, not only for ATU but for the entire Ghanaian debate community,” Dr Amoamah said.

Adding his perspective, Michael Appiah Asamoah Koranteng, Convener of GUDC 2025, emphasized the Championship’s broader role in shaping the next generation of leaders.

“Debating equips students with the ability to question, to analyze, and to articulate. These are skills that go far beyond the tournament halls. With GUDC 2025, we aim to build not just strong debaters, but thinkers and innovators who will influence Ghana and Africa for years to come,” Koranteng noted.

Across one week, participants will engage in several rounds of British Parliamentary-style debates, supported by capacity-building workshops and opportunities for cultural and intellectual exchange.

The event will also serve as a gathering point for academics, policy thinkers, and professionals who share a passion for dialogue and youth empowerment.

The Local Organizing Committee has assured that all arrangements are being put in place to deliver a championship that reflects excellence, fairness and inclusivity.

With anticipation mounting, ATU is preparing to welcome hundreds of students, adjudicators and volunteers for what promises to be a groundbreaking tournament.

As October draws near, one thing is certain: GUDC 2025 will be remembered not just as a debate championship, but as a celebration of youthful energy, bold ideas and the power of words to shape the future.
