Accra, Aug 24, GNA - Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Ablekuma Central Member of Parliament (MP), at the weekend donated food items worth GH¢9,700 to Moslems in the five wards of the Constituency as part of his programme to support their Ramadan fast.
The items which were presented on behalf of the MP by the Assemblywoman for Sabon Zongo Electoral Area, Miss Jane Oku, included 30 bags of rice, 30 bags of sugar, 15 gallons of cooking oil, 30 crates of milk and 1,350 pieces of mats were distributed to all identified mosques in the constituency.
The donation was also aimed at fostering a closer relation with the Moslem community as a way of helping find solutions to problems through dialogue and the principle of non-violence among the youth in the area.
In an interview, the MP told the Ghana News Agency that education remained the only means through which one could obtain knowledge and urged the Moslem youth to be submissive in order to attain greater heights in their studies.
Mr Chaie noted that the Ghanaian society was confronted with challenges of crime, lawlessness and indiscipline among the youth, and that it would take the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, especially the Moslem parents, to mount a crusade against immorality and indiscipline through counselling of their children in the mosques.
He used the occasion to highlight some of his achievements in the constituency, which include the GH¢370 million Abossey Okai road network projects, constructions of eight seater W/C at Mataheko New Abossey Okai Primary and Junior High School, the Larterbiokorshie library stocked with books worth about GH¢30,000 and a three-storey block at the Salvation Army School to end the shift system in the area.
Mr Chaie asked Moslems to pray for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to help it to deliver in its mandate and bring about more development in the constituency.
He asked the NDC activists in the constituency to be wary of confusionists who would be trying to rock the boat of progress of the party in the area.
