Otec News has learnt that River Pelele drain at Aboabo, a zongo community in the Asokore Mampong municipal in the Ashanti region is yet to be dredged as claimed by the Inner City and Zongo Development minister Hon Mustapha Hamid turned not to be true.

The river has been a source of worry to the residents as it leaves scores of them displaced and submerging tens of houses by floods anytime it rains heavy.

Residents in the area also blame the flooding situation on the poor construction of the bridge on the drainage system, which they have also called for construction of bigger one.

The minister, Sheikh Hamid Mustapha, answering questions during the President’s meeting with the media on Wednesday said as part of effects to improve the drainage system to avoid flooding in the area, the river has been dredged.

Otec News’ reporter Isaac Nsiah Foster who visited the area, on Otec FM’s afternoon program, ‘Dwabrem’ on Thursday said the river’s drainage system has not been improved, filled with plastic wastes and weeds.

Some residents he spoke to called the minister a “liar” who they said he has not visited them since he assumed office.

“The minister has disappointed us. He should have told the president the truth to help us. What he said has blocked any assistance the president might have in store for us. What a shameful minister,” an angry resident roared.
