Abor Catholic schools awards teachers for good work

Abor (V/R), March 09, GNA - Rev Fr Moses Debreh, Local Manager of Basic Catholic Schools at Abor in the Keta District, has advised parents against "fuelling indiscipline" among their children by standing in the way of teachers who would like to put such children right.

"You instigate indiscipline among your children when you attack and manhandle teachers who put them on the right path", he said.

The Rev F Debreh was addressing a durbar organised on Tuesday at Abor in honour of teachers of Roman Catholic Basic Schools for their dedication to duty which culminated in the Junior Secondary School obtaining a 100 per cent pass to emerge the best school in 2004 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district. In all 20 teachers, from the kindergarten level, received awards made up of wall clocks and shirting materials while Master William Dogah, the best pupil received 100,000 cedis for obtaining aggregate six in the last BECE.

Rev Fr Debreh alleged that some parents organise hooligans in the town to 'punish' teachers who only want to enforce school regulations. "Be reminded that as the teachers enforce the regulations they are in effect ridding your children of waywardness to become cultured, disciplined and successful in the future", he said.

Rev Fr Debreh said teaching is a difficult profession that required the support of all stakeholders for the desired result.

Mr Dan Abodakpi, the Member of Parliament for Keta, appealed to parents to play their role effectively to develop their children into assets for themselves and the larger community.

Parliament, he said, was working hard to ensure strict compliance of the country's education agenda.

''Parliamentarians scrutinising the use of the budgetary allocation for education to ensure it is judiciously applied by the government for the benefit of the children and the country at large.''

Mr Abodakpi donated two million cedis, two sets of jerseys and two footballs to the school, pledged a television and promised to organise a dinner night for the teachers to motivate them.

Mr Victus Agbolete, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman, condemned the attitude of some deviants in the town who continue to destroy facilities including doors and windows in the school thereby putting stress on the meagre resources of the school. He appealed for assistance in the extension of power to the school. Mr Augustine Kudese, the JSS Headmaster, called for the provision of textbooks and a library for the school.
