About 1,000 youth secure jobs in Sekyere East

Kumawu (Ash), Oct 28, GNA - About 1,000 youth in the Sekyere East district of Ashanti are benefiting from the National Youth Employment Programme through nursing, teaching, farming, community protection and sanitation jobs.

Mr. Philip Basoah, the District Chief Executive, announced this in a speech read for him at the speech and prize-giving day of the Kumawuman Institute of Skills Training at Kumawu.

He said the youth remained the hope of the country and therefore, the district assembly would support the institute in implementing the programmes so as to equip the trainees with employable skills that would enable them employ their peers and reduce unemployment and poverty in the area.

The DCE urged the management of the school to submit their proposals to the assembly for consideration in the development plan of the district.

Mrs. Rose Amoateng, Managress of the Institute, appealed to the government and philanthropists to provide the school with computers to enable them to be abreast with Information, Communication Technology (ICT) programme.

Nana Akwasi Baffoe Ababio II, chief of Wonoo, who chaired the function, called on the Ghana Education Service to intensify the teaching of moral education at all levels to reduce acts of indiscipline including armed robbery. He called on the youth not to shun technical and vocational education and said that would help them acquire skills for gainful employment. 28 Oct. 06
