About 2,996 children admitted to school in Hohoe District

Hohoe, Sept. 14, GNA - About 2,996 children benefited from the Government's programme to entertain children who enter school for the first time within the 10 Circuits in the Hohoe District on Tuesday. Some of the schools in the Hohoe West Circuit were Gbi Central Roman Catholic Boys Primary School, where 50 children had reported and 30 more being expected, at the Saint Francis Demonstration Primary school 22 out of the expected 45 pupils had reported.

At the Evangelical Presbyterian Primary "A" and "B" 100 children had assembled and at the Local Authority Primary School, there were 36 children.

Miss Christine Seayor, Hohoe District Director of Education said about 424.8 million cedis out of the estimated 994.3 million cedis under the Capitation grant had been provided to finance the education of 33,145 pre-school pupils to the Junior Secondary School (JSS)level under the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme. She asked the pupils to be serious with their education, be punctual and respectful to benefit from the programme.

Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive (DCE) said the grant and other interventions by the Government were to make education accessible and affordable to children.

He said the "my first day at school" programme would stimulate enthusiasm and invigorate lasting thoughts in the children to attend school regularly.

Mr Amewu commended teachers for sustaining teaching and learning under inadequate remuneration and infrastructure. Togbega Gabusu the sixth, Paramount chief of Gbi Traditional Area commended the Government for its commitment to the successful implementation of the FCUBE programme.

Master Constance Nsua, a seven-year-old new pupil of St. Francis Demonstration School at Hohoe in an interview with the GNA expressed joy for being in school and hoped to be a medical practitioner in future. 14 Sept. 05
