Abundant goods but low purchasing power characterised Yuletide in Anyinam

Anyinam, Jan. 5, GNA - A Ghana News Agency (GNA) survey at the Akyem Anyinam market during the Christmas and New Year festivities indicated that even though goods were abundant, people were unable to patronize as a resul= t of low purchasing power.

The survey showed that foodstuffs like plantain, cocoyam, cassava and vegetables were abundant but they were not being patronized as customers complained of lack of money.

Madam Cecelia Gyamfua, a customer, told the GNA that she could not afford to buy yam for the evening meal as her husband was unemployed for sometime now.

Traders could not sell their wares, especially, foodstuffs and left the= m at the mercy of the weather. Madam Christiana Kwakye, a seller, said at the time of the GNA's vis= it at 11.00 hours, she had not sold anything.
