The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North, Mr Ebo Barton-Oduro has cut the sod for the construction of a Police Station at Abura, a suburb in Cape Coast.
The work to be funded with the MP’s Social Intervention Fund is expected to begin by the end of June and completed by December.
The contractor is Walker Enterprise with the Public Works Department as consultants.
When completed, the station would have cells for males and females, bathroom facility, exhibits and ammunition rooms, offices for station officer and a Motor Traffic and Transport Department.
The second phase of the project would be the construction of a police quarters to accommodate the station officer.
Speaking at the ceremony on Monday, Mr Barton-Oduro who is also the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, observed that the growth of every community come with challenges like, increase in criminal activities thus the need to enhance security in the area.
The recent chieftaincy disputes at Ebubonko, a community nearby which led to the death of one person and other criminal activities in the town are enough reasons to build a police station in the community and called for collaboration to complete the project.
The Central Regional Commander of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ransford Moses Ninson appealed to philanthropists and other stakeholders to complement Government’s efforts by providing vehicles and other logistics to the service to enhance work.
Nana Kodwo Addae II, Chief of Abura promised his full support for the early completion of the project.
