Abutia, Nov 13, GNA - Volunteers from 15 farming communities in the Abutia Traditional Area have planted 1,000 tree seedlings to support the Greening Ghana Initiative.
The major towns covered were Teti, Agorve, Kloe, Kpota and Agordeke. Led by Togbe Hotormaho Amedzake III, Asafohene of Abutia-Kpota, and under the supervision of forestry officials, the 255 volunteers planted various species of trees along major roads and open places. Togbe Amedzake said the exercise was to sensitise the citizenry on the nation's 50th Anniversary and also to resuscitate the community's natural ecology.
He spoke about the importance of tree planting and urged the volunteers to make it part of their lives because of its benefits such as shade, wind brakes, beautification and fruits.
