The Academic City College (ACC), formerly Sikkim Manipal University, has held a Research Conference for stakeholders in education to create awareness on the need to support and encourage research.
The conference was jointly organized by the College, NOVAN Education and Training Centre, and AIMS Ghana, a research training centre for Mathematical Scientists and TechnoServe Engine.
It was to serve as a platform and an opportunity for the participants, especially students, to bridge the gap between academia, research and industries.
Dr Edward Kwapong, Chairman for the occasion, said the event was to encourage participants to be enthused about research, and how to apply it to solve problems.
“Teachers are not motivated well, therefore, most people choose teaching only when they don’t get the job they desire,” he said.
Dr Kwapong urged stakeholders in Education, including parents, communities, industries and the government, to come on board and raise resources for Education that will make the field interesting for people to prioritize it as a career.
He also suggested that teachers be motivated to retain them in the profession.
Dr Abhishek Tyagi, Rector of ACC, said the conference was an initiative to bring researchers from different institutions, to discuss and learn different research processes and its uses to develop societies.
Mr Anis Haffar, Guest Speaker at the conference and Founder of the GATE Institute, an educational centre, said Education was to solve problems “and not the excitement in getting heavy titles and designations.”
“Education is not listening attentively to lecturers and repeating exactly what they give you on paper, but rather how to use what is learnt to solve problems through your own critical thinking,” he said.
