Accept bad roads; we're a Third World country – Urban Roads dept

Ghanaians must learn to tolerate the nature of their roads because Ghana is a Third World country hoping to catch up with the developed world, an official of the Urban Roads department has said.

According to Benjamin Adomah, inasmuch as the department is striving to improve the quality of the roads in Accra, it will take time to meet the standards expected by Ghanaians.

“…..we understand (the challenges with the roads), we are only a third world country, and we are now upgrading ourselves to a middle-income country.

“The fact of the matter is that we are not as rich as the developed countries. We understand the challenges, but we must appreciate that the City is growing,” the acting regional Director of the Urban Roads told Morning Starr host Kafui Dey, Tuesday.

He said although there is a comprehensive plan to upgrade the roads in Accra the late disbursement of funds has been a major setback.

He, however, said Ghanaians must learn to show appreciation in cases where there are evidence that efforts are being made to fix the roads.
