This year’s Accra Academy Homecoming, dubbed Homecoming 2014, is slated for the school this Saturday August 9
The event in which is being taken to another level due to the participating of the St Mary Girls school counterparts popularly known as ACASMA
This year’s event is going to be more sports and entertainment packed due to the participation of the ACASMA branches from the various tertiary campuses in the country
A press release by the organizers, the female counterpart of St Mary’s Old Girls Association has officially sent in a proposal to fully partner Accra Academy to celebrate Homecoming 2014 as well as participate in all activates line up for the programme
The annual programme the biggest on the Bleoo calendar is expected to be graced by the two dominant past Academicians in the oil industry, Mr Alex Mould (Bleoo 78), CEO of Ghana National Petroleum Company as well as Mr Charles Darko (Bleoo 74) General Manager Tullow Oil Ghana Lt are expected to join the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Doe Adjaho to light the event flame
In a chat with Nii Maale-Adsei, he revealed that the event is the biggest platform of the Old Boys Association where the old boys including those in the diaspora come together to regroup and reminiscence, network , have fun and plan ways and means to assist the alma mater.
Some of the competition, slated for Saturday include football, Jama or Oje competition, volleyball and Kenkey eating completion and Ludo and Ampe for the ladies
‘It is going to be pure entertainment and lots of fun with some live music performance and some sizzling barbecue and cool drinks
Accra Academy was established on 20th July 1931 by 4 young guys all under the age of 30, G.N Alema 29, J.A Halm Addo 29, K.G Konuah 27, and S.N Awuletey 26.

Accra Academy was started in a building donated by Madam Ellen Buckle in the slums of James Town purposely for brilliant but needy students who couldn’t afford the Mfanstipims, Achimotas, St. Augustines, Adiseadels and the like. For record purposes these young gentlemen were the first to establish a secondary school as all the earlier schools where either established by the colonial government or missionaries.
The school has come a long way after 82 years has been able to produce a Head of State, back to back Speakers of Parliament, back to back Chief Justices, as well as host of ministers, doctors, engineers, ambassadors as well as entrepreneurs.
