Accra Academy old students urged to identify with year groups

Mr Victor Quao, Chairman of the Accra Academy Old Boys Association, has called on past students of the school to identify themselves with their year groups to help bring development to the institution.

He said the “Accra Aca – Bleoo” is one of the leading senior high schools in the country and the old boys must put their shoulders to the wheel to undertake infrastructural projects to facelift their Alma Mata.

Mr Quao made the call when the school organised its 15th edition of the homecoming fiesta this year at its premises in Accra with many old boys from the Diaspora in attendance.

He said since the inception of the homecoming summit in 2001, the school had seen various development initiatives which include the three-storey dormitory building with the support of the Parent-Teacher Association.

He said as part of the 70th anniversary the school’s authorities are inviting all old boys to form their year groups to assist sustain the development of the institute.

Mr R.O. Solomon, former Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea and a 1976 year old boy commended the organisers of this year’s homecoming for improving upon the previous ones.

He said upon concerns raised by some old boys there would be rebranding of the school which would involve internal restructuring of processes and broader participation in the homecoming by reaching the various year groups.

Mr Solomon urged representatives of the groups to attend meetings frequently and network to promote their businesses.

Nii Maale Adsei, Public Relations Officer of the Old Boys Association expressed gratitude to year groups who made donations to the school, particularly the 1985 group which presented an arch gate to be constructed at the main entrance of the school.

Mr Edward Doe-Adjaho, Speaker of Parliament and an old boy received an artist impression of the project on behalf of the school.

Other donations made by other year groups were a multi-purpose photocopier machine, a swivel chair, GH¢ 60,000 solar light project for 20 classrooms and a cash of GH¢ 100,000.

Mr Dela Ahiawor, Journalist and an old student called on the old boys to make it a conscious effort to contribute their widow’s mite to the development of the school.

The fiesta, which was preceded by a football gala and kenkey eating competition, had other side activities such as health screening, gari soaking competition amidst live band by Accra Academy Brass Band and fireworks display to round it off.

A solemn ceremony was held for old boys who had departed.
