Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), a major player in the Ghanaian alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage industry, has presented a sponsorship package of GH? 50,000 and 100 cases of assorted products worth GH? 4,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) towards its 19th GJA awards.

The sponsorship package forms part of the company’s consistent efforts over the years in assisting the GJA to improve the journalistic practice in the country as well as reward excellence in the journalism fraternity.

Ms Adjoba Kyiamah, Corporate and Legal Affairs Director of ABL, said ABL was committed to ensuring excellence and freedom of the media and would always support the media in enhancing their work hence the package.

Ms Kyiamah said as pioneers in the brewery industry, ABL believed in accelerating growth and social development through its value chains and was pleased to be given the opportunity once again to show their support to the journalism professionals and also challenge hardworking journalists to project the needs of corporate Ghana.

“It is our belief that a discerning media will engage in responsible, accurate and credible news reportage which fuels the development of a vibrant economy for the achievement of a nationalistic goal,” she added.

She congratulated the media for their efforts in ensuring media responsibility, adding that the sponsorship was a sign of encouragement and solidarity for the GJA.

Dr Affail Monney, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, thanked ABL for its continuous support for the awards ceremony and urged other corporate bodies to assist them in shaping the Ghanaian media.

Dr Monney appealed to journalists to use their professionalism to always separate the ‘chaff from the grains’ to know which issues could thrive to help scale up development.

He said this year’s theme was to highlight the need to be more responsible, accurate and development conscious.
