The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus Glover, is spearheading a comprehensive sanitation drive to improve waste management and promote cleanliness in the region.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to make Accra a cleaner and more beautiful city.
According to Titus Glover, the campaign has already shown promising results. It will soon be replicated in other areas of the capital.
"We are undertaking sanitation projects collectively with Zoomlion, the Ga Traditional Council, and the Ministry of Sanitation. We have divided the region into six parts; we started the first phase on July 3 and completed it last Saturday. We will be going to other places in the coming days," he noted.
In addition to the sanitation drive, Minister Glover also highlighted the potential for Greater Accra's coastal areas to emulate the well-maintained beaches found in countries like Indonesia.
He expressed his desire to replicate this success in Ghana.
"One area of concern we identified is the beaches. I have been to Indonesia, and their beaches are a gold mine. In Ghana, the cleanest beaches are along the coast of Keta. We are going to turn our attention to the beaches in Accra and ensure we clean up the filth there," he stated.
Titus Glover also addressed concerns about the region's malfunctioning traffic lights and streetlights.
"Most of these streetlights and traffic lights are off. I have asked for data on all these faulty lights. We want to meet with the Urban Roads department to see what we can do about the situation. Additionally, another company has expressed interest in providing us with solar lights," he added.
As the sanitation campaign gains momentum, Titus Glover reiterates the significance of ongoing efforts to keep Accra clean.
He acknowledged that while progress is being made, there remains considerable work ahead to achieve the desired standards of hygiene and public safety across the region.
