Achinakrom gets GH¢12,000.00 police station

Achinakrom in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti region can now boast of a police station to help beef up security and stem criminal activities in the area with the inauguration of a new police station.

The facility, which cost GH¢12,000.00, comprise a charge office, two cells and two offices for the officer in charge and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), was built from a special community levy paid by the citizenry.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Augustine Gyenning, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who performed the inauguration warned drug peddlers and users who operate in the area to desist from the act and engage themselves in profitable ventures to become useful assets to the nation.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander said the police station had been strategically placed right in the vicinity where criminal activities like car snatching took place.

With the commissioning of the station, he said, road barriers would be mounted to check car snatching among other criminal activities.

The Regional Police Boss, therefore called on the citizenry to assist the Police by offering them relevant information leading to the arrest of criminals.

“I will also plead with you to cooperate with the personnel to conduct their duties effectively and efficiently and also report any misconduct by the men to the appropriate quarters for redress,” he appealed.

Mr. Afrifa Kwaku Yamoah Ponko, Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the chiefs and people of Achinakrom for their initiative and urged others to emulate their patriotism.

He appealed to the chiefs and elders to help reduce crime in the area by making the Police independent and not to shield relatives who commit offences.

The MCE urged them to support the Police to bring the growing incidence of crime in the area such as robbery, land disputes, traffic offences, illegal mining and others, to the barest minimum.

Mr. Yamoah Ponko promised the Assembly’s support to help maintain the place and also support the town to house the personnel.

Nana Antwi Boasiako, Krontihene of Achinakrom, who represented the Chief promised that the people would help the Police to protect lives and property in the town and its environs.

Also at the ceremony were ACP Mensah Duku, Deputy Regional Police Commander, Mr. Owusu Frimpong Boadu, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Unit Committee and other stakeholders.**
