Ekumfi Mbobroto (C/R), Dec. 20, GNA - The chief and people of Ekumfi Mbobroto in the Central Region have appealed to the government to find solution to the perennial acute water shortage facing them.

Nana Odziakopa Arko VII, chief of town who made the appeal on behalf of his people, said most of the residents were deserting the town to escape th= e situation. The Chief was addressing a large crowd of people at Ekumfi Mbobroto in the Mfantseman Municipality at the weekend to mark their annual 93Ayereye= " festival.

He said the festival was preceded by both traditional and Christian prayers to ask for God's intervention in that critical problem which had forced most of the people to flee the town for better prospects elsewhere. The chief said the two streams that served as their source of drinking water had dried up and there was no other source of water in the town. He said the situation had compelled the people to drink the stagnant water from the streams, adding the school children and other people had to walk about four kilometres to Akra, a nearby community about four-kilometre= s away to collect water. The Member of Parliament of the area, Mr Kuntu Blankson, in his response promised to convey all their concerns to the appropriate authorities for redress. He gave the assurance that he would assist the people to complete work o= n a community centre currently under construction to serve as an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre, as well as a library to enhance children's education
