Ada citizens told to contribute to the development of the Area

Takoradi, April 19, GNA - The Government has appointed a technical committee to solve all problems associated with salt production in the Ada area to make the venture a viable one under the President's Special Initiatives, Mr Kofi Plahar, District Chief Executive for Dangbe East in the Greater Accra, told a meeting of Ada Citizens in Takoradi at the weekend.

Mr Plahar was addressing a meeting of Ada Citizens resident in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Sunday to brief them on social development at home.

Some members of the District Assembly, Ada Traditional Council as well as members of the Cape Coast University branch of the Ada Students Union attended the meeting.

Mr Plahar emphasised the need for non-resident citizens of Ada to initiate projects to complement the efforts of the Government to facilitate the socio-economic development of the area. "You must always be proud of your ethnic origin and contribute to the development of the area, not only by donating cash but also providing ideas as to how best to plan and sustain development." Mr Plahar said a number of projects, which included electrification; schools, sanitation, roads, water and health among others had been completed while others were ongoing.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), DANIDA and other nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) have been providing technical and financial assistance for the physical planning of some communities in the District.

He said the District Assembly had evolved scholarship schemes for brilliant but needy children as well as to train teachers, who would teach in the District after their training.

Mr Plahar advised the people to employ the services of qualified architects in the planning and construction of houses to enable such building withstand storms.

Mr Adzoteye Lawer Akrofi, Presiding Member of the Assembly, said the meeting was among a series planned by the District Assembly and the Ada Traditional Council with Ada citizens in other parts of the country to collate ideas for effective planning of the development of Ada. Efforts are being made to contact Ada citizens resident abroad to plan their active involvement in the planning and execution of development programmes.

Mr Akrofi advised Ada citizens in Sekondi-Takoradi to be law abiding and unite to contribute to the development of the Metropolis. Nene Korle III, Tekperbiawe Divisional Chief, who deputised for Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Paramount Chief of Ada, called on Ada Citizens to come together as one people to help one another in times of need. Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive, commended Ada citizens in the Metropolis for being law-abiding and also contributing meaningfully to the development of the area.

He reminded the people that Ghanaians irrespective of their ethnic background were one people with a common destiny. They must champion the development aspirations of the communities in which they lived for the overall progress of the country.
