Ho, May 27, GNA- A group calling itself the legitimate representatives of the chiefs and people of Adaklu have disassociated itself from the declaration of Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, Paramount Chief of Adaklu Traditional Area to join the Adaklu-Anyigbe District with the capital at Agortime-Kpetoe.
A press statement signed or thumb printed by 105 people said to be chiefs of the various divisions of the Adaklu Traditional Area described the declaration as not reflecting the views of all the Adaklus. The statement, which was copied to the Ghana News Agency, dismissed the process of consultation that resulted in the decision to abandon the boycott and join the new district as lopsided. It noted that the boycott of the assembly by the Adaklu people therefore still remained in force until the chiefs and people of the Traditional Area legitimately reviewed the position.
A fortnight ago, the Paramount Chief of the traditional area, at press conference declared that it was joining the Adaklu-Anyigbe District with the capital at Agortime-Kpetoe. A heavy military and Police presence, called to beat off angry demonstrators opposed to the decision, characterized the ceremony. The people of Adaklu had since government announcement of the new districts contended the decision to make Agortime-Kpetoe as capital and vowed to stay out of it.
Their disapproval, led by a committee of eminent citizens, including chiefs took the form of petitions, press statements, street demonstrations and the refusal to cooperate with officers detailed for duty in the area from Kpetoe.
