Adams Town (B/A), June 1, GNA - The people of Adams Town, a suburb of Nsoatre in the Brong Ahafo Region have raised 28 million cedis to purchase electric poles to enable them extend electricity to the area. A total of 35 concrete poles have been bought, remaining wires through which the power would be conveyed.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, the Assemblyman for the area Mr. Barnabas Barfour Frimpong appealed to the government and non-governmental organisations to assist the community to connect the town to the national electricity grid.
He said the absence of electricity in the area provides a shield for certain miscreants to perpetrate crimes during the night, adding that the level of education in the town would be further enhanced if electricity gets there.
Mr. Frimpong commended the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko for donating five million cedis towards the project. The Acting Secretary to the Unit Committee, Charles Ohene Antwi also reiterated the need for electricity in the area, saying it would help create jobs for many hands.
