Old Edubiase (Ash), Oct. 17, GNA - The Adansi North District Assembly is to organize remedial classes at Fomena, Dompoase and Akrokerri for failed senior secondary school students in the district to better their grades for further academic pursuit. The District Chief Executive, Mr Peter K. Ameyaw, who announced this at a durbar organized in his honour at Old Edubiase at the weekend, said the assembly would take up the cost involved to enable the affected students to attend the classes for free.

He said the assembly was aware of the low academic performance and that it would do everything possible to motivate improved performance in the district.

Mr Ameyaw challenged the district education directorate to help improve the performance of the district in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The DCE, who had earlier visited a number of basic schools at Dompoase and Old Edubiase, expressed concern about the type of classrooms being built nowadays in which the windows were sealed with mouldings.

He said because the classrooms provided poor visibility, the pupils and students would in the long term faced problems with their eyesight.

Mr Isaac Kofi Bimpong, the District Director of Education, who accompanied the DCE, said his outfit was committed to work to improve education in the new district. He explained the capitation grant and warned teachers in the district to desist from collecting any fees from a pupil or student in the public basic school,

Mr Bimpong called on all stakeholders to be watchdogs to ensure the effective utilization of the grant. He further urged parents to take advantage of the capitation grant to send their children to school, adding, "You will have no excuse for failing to send your child to school".

Nana Fosu Duro Frikyi II, the Dabehene of Edubiase, praised the government for constructing a new primary school block but appealed to the assembly to rehabilitate the road leading to the school, since the pupils and teachers found it almost impossible to use it, especially when it rained.
