Adansi West Assembly collects 2.3 billion cedis revenue

Obuasi (Ash), May 27, GNA - The Adansi West District Assembly collected 2.304 billion cedis as internally generated revenue last year. The figure represented 99.96 per cent of the estimated revenue of 2,304,984,209 cedis.

Mr Joe Boampong, District Chief Executive, who announced this at the Fourth Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Obuasi on Wednesday, said, "it is worthy to note that the Assembly performed above 100 per cent in land and investment revenues".

The Assembly collected 319.1 million cedis instead of the estimated 233 million cedis on lands, while 94.8 million cedis came in instead of the estimated 48.67 million cedis in investment.

Mr Boampong attributed the impressive performances in lands revenue to the dedication of the staff at the Building Inspectorate Unit, who went round to check building permits.

The DCE said, even though, the Assembly acquired a motorbike at a cost of 30 million cedis for the Unit, it was still important for the Assembly to encourage and resource the staff to do better this year.

"The generally good performance could be attributed to the strict supervision and constant monitoring by the Assembly officials led by myself as well as the regular meetings by the Revenue Staff and the Clerks of the urban and area councils with the Finance and Administration Sub-Committee".

Mr Boampong said in the case of the District Assemblies' Common Fund, he said more than four billion cedis was received.

He said the Assembly acquired a tractor to improve sanitation in Obuasi at a cost of 400 million cedis, adding that cost was deducted from the DACF at source.

The DCE announced that an amount of 399.8 million cedis was released to the Assembly as the first instalment of the suspended 2002 DACF, which was to be paid over a five-year period.

Mr Boampong said that amount enabled the Assembly to procure 410 low- tension teak poles to support 13 communities under the Self-Help Electrification Programme IV (SHEP IV) and to extend electricity to the new slaughterhouse at Obuasi.
