Obuasi (Ash), Jan.20, GNA - A number of public basic schools in Obuasi are to be rehabilitated to give the township a new look befitting its municipal status.

The schools include St. Joseph's Primary and JSS, St. Thomas Primary and JSS Anglican Primary and JSS.

Mr Joseph Boampong, the Adansi West District Chief Executive announced this at the District's People's Assembly held at the weekend at the AGC Club House.

He further announced that the assembly had earmarked the construction of storey-classroom blocks at Kunka junction, Pomposo and Kwabenakwakrom as part of measures to end the shift system in Obuasi and its environs.

The District Chief Executive appealed to the public to support the assembly's curfew imposed on children under 18 year, which prevents them from loitering around about after 8 p.m.

According to him, the curfew had started influencing higher academic performance in schools in the district.

On health, Mr Boampong said a number of clinics and health centres are being constructed to improve health delivery especially in the rural communities.

Answering a question on efforts being made to connect some communities to the national grid, Mr Boampong said 58 villages are to be lighted under the government's SHEP Four programme. The District Chief Executive said in all about 4000 poles would be needed and encouraged the beneficiary villages to start raising funds to support the programme.

On Obuasi town roads, Mr Boampong informed the forum that the assembly had no right to terminate the contract being executed by Nkwantabisa.

Rather, he said the assembly had suggested to the Regional Tender Board to abrogate the contract since the pace of work is unreasonably slow.

Mr Stephen Kwarteng, the Presiding Member of the assembly who presided urged the public to dialogue with the assembly to help promote the development of the district.
