Gomoa Panfokrom (C/R), July 18, GNA- The Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Environment has approved a budget of GH(100,000 (one billion cedis) for the construction of a new administrative block for the Gomoa Panfokrom Women's Training Institute. to enhance effective administration.

The Ministry has already through the Department of Community Development completed the construction of two separate classroom blocks all totalling GH(30,000 (300 million) cedis to promote quality teaching and learning at the institute.

Mr Abraham Dwoma Odoom, Deputy Minister, Local Government Rural Development and Environment announced this at the 50th graduation of the institute at Panfokrom.

He said to ensure the comfort of the students; the Ministry has supplied 300 beds to the institute and assured the authorities that a bus promised during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the school would be presented before the end of the year. Mr Odoom noted that the provision of the facilities would not achieve its aims and objective if there was no commitment, cooperation and selfless devotion to deputy by the teaching staff and student body. He admonished both the staff and students to eschew laziness so that the government's policy on girl-child education and youth skills transfer would be achieved.

The Deputy Minister expressed his appreciation to the board of directors, the Parent Teacher Association, the Gomoa District Assembly and other stakeholders for the support they had given to the institute.

Mr Issah Aryana, Director of Community Development said the Ministry has approved the change of name of institutions under the Department to Community Development Vocational Training Institute to enable it enrol men alongside women. He challenged the boys in the locality to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire sustainable and self-employable skills and vocation.

"If boys are training as nurses why not catering or home management, as well as batik and tie and dye, hairdressing and fashion designing" he stressed.

Mr Aryana expressed his concern on the encroachment of lands of the various institutions resulting in litigations and threats to the authorities.

Mrs Rebecca Ampah-Korsah, Principal of the Institute appealed to the government to help rehabilitate the road from Panfokrom to Gomoa Awombrew on the Swedru/Winneba main road to facilitate transportation of goods and services.

She said the Institute was facing transportation problems and appealed to the Vice President Aliu Mahama to fulfill the promise he made early this year when he visited the school to provide it with a school bus.

Mrs Ampah-Korsah appealed to the Gomoa District Assembly and MP for Gomoa East to help rehabilitate the existing structures in the institute, especially the kitchen.
