Admission contractors warned

Individuals parading as admission contractors and promising job seekers of admissions into health training institutions in the country have been warned to desist from such acts or face the wrath of the law.

Mr Chris Beyere, the Head of Health Training Institutions at the Ministry of Health (MOH), who gave the warning in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Saturday, in Sunyani, said “anyone caught in such an act would not be spared by the Ministry and the law enforcement agencies”.

He said “there is nothing called protocol lists for admissions into health training institutions in the country”, saying that, such acts, if not checked could affect the calibre and quality of the nation’s health professionals in the immediate future.

Mr. Beyere stressed that “the general public needs to know that the issue of protocol list does not form part of admission requirements for one to enter a health training school”.

He therefore implored parents and guardians to understand that “admissions are made on merit, based on the quality of applicants’ results”, explaining that, “that provided equal chance for all qualified applicants to be selected”.

Mr. Beyere explained that admission on merit was meant to ensure the realisation of the MoH’s objective of not just training health professionals, but that, all those who passed out annually were well-trained qualified personnel, capable of making maximum impact on the field by their efficient services in the nation’s health delivery system.

He said some fraudsters normally go round during periods of admissions, by using the names of personalities, to collect monies from people with the promise of offering them admissions, adding that, “such unscrupulous persons must be exposed to face the full rigours of the law”.

He appealed to the general public to support the Ministry and the Police to expose those admission contractors, who have made it an annual ritual to enrich themselves.

A number of people interviewed in the Sunyani municipality commended Mr. Beyere for the observation and the warning but nevertheless disagreed with him that the canker was being perpetrated by high profile personalities, who use their positions to get admission for relations.

“We must only ensure as a nation that either protocol or not, whoever is admitted met the admission requirements”, they pointed out.
