Sunyani (B/A), Dec. 17, GNA - Representatives of communities residing in forest areas in the Sunyani Municipality, have ended a two- day workshop on: "Rights-Based Advocacy and Policy Influencing" on sustainable use of the forest in Sunyani.
The Training of Trainers Workshop, attracted 20 participants, including chiefs; herbalists, foresters and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service.
It was organised by the Sunyani Forest Forum, a non-governmental organisation and Civil Society strengthening facility (CSF), a developmental organization of the British Department for International Development (DFID).
Mr. Paul Sowah, Municipal Manager of the Forestry Department asked the participants to liase with the relevant organisations to exploit the forest on sustainable basis.
Mr. Samuel Mawuko Eworyi, Coordinator of CSF said research has shown that most people living in forest areas had little knowledge about the management of the forest and announced a programme to step up awareness.
Nana Bosoma Asor-Nkrawiri Omanhene (Paramount Chief) of Sunyani Traditional Area who chaired the function appealed to the CSF, and other stakeholders to step up their efforts to protect the environment.
