Afasiebon community gets Police station

Kumasi, Sept. 18, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deput= y Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick E. Timbillah has observed that contemporary policing is a shared responsibility, and has therefore urged the citizenry to embrace the neighbourhood watch committee concept. This, he said would augment the efforts of the Ghana Police Service in combating crime in the society. DCOP Timbillah made the observation when he inaugurated a GH¢73,000 police station and accommodation facility at Afasiebon at Atwima-Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

The facility built by the people with funding from the sale of stool lands has a charge office, male and female cells, washrooms and five bedrooms for the personnel.

The Police Commander commended the people for their initiative and called on other public-spirited individuals and organisations to support th= e police to enhance national security. DCOP Timbillah said his outfit has started an out-reach programme to sensitise residents to be security conscious. Mr Tony Agyemang Nyame, District Chief Executive, in an address read o= n his behalf said government is resolved to promote the well-being of the police. Nana Antwi Brempong II, Chief of Atwima advised the people to voluntee= r information to the police to enhance their work in combating crime. Nana Kofi Sika Were, Odikro of Afasiebon, expressed the hope that the facility would go a long way to encourage officers who, would be posted to the area to work hard.
