Afrancho raises 12.8 million cedis towards development projects

Afrancho (Ash), April 13, GNA- The people of Afrancho in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district of Ashanti on Sunday raised 12.8 million cedis at a fund-raising rally for development projects in the town.

The projects estimated to cost about 450 million cedis include the construction of a community clinic, a library and primary and junior secondary schools.

Speaking at the function, Nana Agyei Kese, the chief of Afrancho asked citizens of the various communities resident abroad to endeavour to woo investors into their communities. He said funds from central government for development projects were not enough to meet the development needs of the communities and so the people must also help themselves. rulers to endeavour to link up with their citizens abroad to woo investors into their communities.

The occasion which was dubbed: "Home Coming" also coincided with the inauguration of a kindergarten and nursery blocks built for the town by an American businessman at the cost of 180 million cedis. Richard Wallace, the businessman was also enstooled as the Nkosuohene of Afrancho, under the stool name Nana Asamoah Kenten. Inaugurating the two blocks comprising four classrooms and two offices each, Nana Kese expressed his people's appreciation and gratitude to the new Nkosuohene for his regular support to the town since his first visit about four years ago.

Mrs Gladys Asamani, the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Director of Education commended the chiefs and people of the town for taking a giant step towards raising the standard of education in the area. She advised parents in the farming communities not to over indulge their children in farming activities to the detriment of their education. 13 April 04
