Assin Fosu (C/R), July 10, GNA - The Assin Afutuakwa Traditional Council has offered 485 hectares of land to Obiri Yeboah Secondary School in the Assin North District of the Central Region, for the construction of permanent school block.

The school is among the 31 schools selected by the government to be upgraded into an endowed school.

Mr Charles Bediako-Adu, headmaster of the school, who made this known to the GNA at Fosu in an interview on Saturday, expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and people of the Afutuakwa Traditional Council for the gesture and appealed to the government to expedite action on the project.

He said the school, which is the only senior secondary school in the district has a student population of 1,530 and lacked many facilities that would enhance quality teaching and learning.

Mr Bediako-Adu said the school, which has over the years trained a lot of people still did not have facilities such as a library, science laboratory, enough classrooms and a bus.

He said the school has an old Mummy truck, which often breaks down and cannot cope with the volume of work in the school. The headmaster in this regard appealed to the GETFund secretariat to come to the aid of the school by providing it with a bus. Mr Bediako-Adu also used the occasion to thank Assin citizens domiciled in Ohio for donating five computers to the Obiri Yeboah and Nyankomase Ahenkro secondary schools.

He appealed to others to also contribute their quota towards the development of the area, since the government alone could not do it.
