A new Awadada for the Agave Traditional Area was last Saturday outdoored at a durbar of the chiefs and people of the area at Dabala, after he swore the oath of allegiance to the paramount chief of the area Togbe Azaxie Degenu III.

Known in private life as Christian Kowuvi Dogbe, the new Awadada, Togbe Kowu Adzowe VII is a retired Deputy Director of the Information Service Department.

At a ceremony that saw the display of rich culture and tradition, the new Awadada arrived at the forecourt of the Togbega (the paramount chief) with a retinue of aides and linguists.

The short and tradition-rich ceremony continued with the performance of the traditional chieftaincy rites and the swearing of the oath by Togbe Adzowe VII.

In an address, Togbega Degenu III advised the new Awadada to use his office and influence to bring development to the area. He also implored the new chief to uphold the dignity of the chieftaincy institution by carefully studying the history and traditions of the state.

According to the Paramount chief, while the Awadada signifies a warlord for the traditional area, the wars they want him to lead them fight are wars against poverty, illiteracy and disunity.

“This war is against poverty, illiteracy, disunity and diseases. Be a warlord who will help Agave overcome these difficulties” he noted.

Noting that these are key issues confronting the people, Togbega Degenu III advised the new Awadada to help reverse the trend, adding that the area has lots of land and is surrounding by rivers, but the people continue to suffer.

He also cautioned the new chief to be fair to all citizens and mindful of bad elements within the society.

“Some people may come to you with distorted and twisted history and some may sing your praises just to win your favour.”

He was also unhappy with the refusal of especially the youth to take up chieftaincy positions, blaming it on the misconceptions most people especially the youths have about the chieftaincy institutions conflicting with their religious beliefs.

“If young people continue in this way they would come to regret in the future after someone has taken their place because vacancies cannot continue forever,” he cautioned. . The royal outdooring of the Agave Awadada was attended by many citizens from the area, both home & abroad, chiefs from various traditional areas, security chiefs and the general public.

“If young people continue in this way they would come to regret in the future after someone has taken their place because vacancies cannot continue forever,” he said
