The African Rights Initiative International (ARII), a development charity, has begun the modernization and retooling of the Agbogba Anglican Basic Schools in the Ga East Municipality under its model school project.

The 1.1 million cedis project which would take five years to complete would culminate in improved infrastructure, computerization, re-training and re-orientation of teachers.

After signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East, the Greater Accra Regional Manager of Anglican schools, and other stakeholders in Tema, Mr Alex Asiedu, Chairman, ARII, said the project would improve the environment, infrastructure and administration of the school.

According to him, it would also enhance staff and pupil spirit and performance as well as achieve parent and community engagement.

Mr Asiedu, who is also the Chairman of Atlantic Trust Holdings Limited and Atlantic Holdings of Dubai, said “Our commitment to leading a continental and global transformation at all levels can only be realized when the youngest citizens of states are given better footing through education.

“But starting from a point, we need to rebuild our educational system; better infrastructure, well resourced setting and access to opportunities to direct, motivate and develop the abilities of millions of children to enable them contribute meaningfully to national life when they grow up.”

He said, “In simple terms we adopt government basic schools. Then, working with existing staff, community leaders and state educational agencies, we set in motion a process of change and improvement.

Mr Prince Oduro Willaims, Executive Director of ARII, said the organization would upgrade ten basic schools to achieve quality teaching and learning as well as a deeper degree of community involvement in the next five years.

Mr John Kwao Sackey, Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, thanked ARII for the project and promised to offer the all cooperation and assistance needed on the part of the Assembly to make the project a success.
