Agona Asafo, Jan 12, GNA - The United Youth Foundation, a Development Association at Agona Asafo has set up a 10,000 Ghana Cedis Educational Fund to help needy, but brilliant students at Agona Asafo to pursuit higher education. Mr Robert Abeiku Ansah, founder of the Association said this at the inauguration at the Foundation at Asafo in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
He expressed concern about the poor performance of schools at Agona Asafo in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr Ansah said the elites of the town have instituted an award for the best BECE candidate, but the candidates did not meet the criteria. He said the aim of the foundation was to assist the chiefs and the people of the town to tackle issues that retarded progress in Asafo. He said members would collaborate with the chiefs and opinion leaders to check children who roam about on the streets, and attended video and concert shows.
According to him, this action would make the children stay in their homes and study for them to improve upon their academic performance. Nana Yamfo Esuako XI, Chief of Agona Asafo who chaired the function, commended the leaders of the Foundation for their efforts at the development of the area to improve the living standards of the people. He hoped that the construction of a 40,000 Ghana Cedis library at Asafo would encourage the pupils and students of the town to study hard since education was the key to development. Nana Esuako stated that the chiefs would continue to cooperate with NGOs and government in the development of Asafo and appealed to citizens living outside the town to come home and help.
