Agortime-Ziope youth form non-partisan group to push for development

The youth in the Agortime-Ziope Constituency in the Volta Region have formed a non-partisan group to monitor and assess activities of political parties and individuals who intend to contest political positions in the area.

The non-partisan group, which comprises members of all the notable political parties in the country, has been formed to push for the development of the area because the political leaders they had elected in the past had disappointed them.

Speaking at the inauguration of the group at Ziope recently, its spokesperson, Mr D.K. Denu, said members of the group would canvass for the election of the persons they think can bring development to the doorsteps of the people.

This, he said, would send signals to those political parties and individuals that they can no more take the people for granted.

“The youth in the Agortime-Ziope Constituency believes that, as youth who constitute majority of the population, they have the potential of bringing the needed transformation through their actions, and would not relent in striving to change attitudes to appreciate the objectives and values of the group,” he stressed.

He continued that the activities of the group would basically include comprehensive public education to create the awareness on the need for the people to be law-abiding at all times, as well as accord respect to authority and to be active citizens, who would develop an interest in the development of the area.

Mr Denu said the consistent educational activities of the group would enlighten the people to know their rights and responsibilities and to hold their leaders accountable.

According to him, the youth usually give their votes to politicians who approach them, but regrettably, when they are offered the opportunity, they (politicians) turn their backs at them.

When contacted as to whether he was aware of the formation of the non-partisan group, the Agortime-Ziope District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr John Amenyah, said he heard about it, but he (DCE) was not disturbed, because his political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was noted across the country, including the district, as a party that always leaves footprints anytime it’s in government.

Mr Amenyah continued that his predecessor had already laid the foundation, in terms of bringing development to the area, and that he would work hard to ensure that government programmes and policies were smoothly carried out to address the development needs of the people.

The group inaugurated eleven-member executives, with Mr. Daniel Ahiable as Chairman, Mr. Joseph Dugah, Vice Chairman, Mr. Bismark Abusah, Secretary, Mr. Cesar Agbeve, Vice Secretary, Madam Delali Wayo as Women Organiser, Madam Evelyn Narh, Deputy Women Organiser, Mr. Francis Gati, Treasurer, Madam Patricia Kpodo, Assistant Treasurer, and Madam Cynthia Akpah, Special Advisor to the Women Organiser.
