Agyenim-Boateng begins a week's tour of Brong Ahafo Region

Accra, July 6, GNA - Deputy Information Minister, James Agyenim-Boateng, on Monday began a week's tour of Brong Ahafo Region to familiarise himself with the activities of Agencies and Departments under the Ministry of Information.

A statement issued by the Ministry in Accra on Tuesday said Mr Agyenim-Boateng would address various municipal and district assemblies on President John Evans Atta Mills' 'Better Ghana' agenda and explain government's policies to them. It said on arrival, Mr Agyenim-Boateng called on the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Nyamekye Marfo and later met all Heads of Department and staff of the Regional Co-ordinating Council and Sunyani Municipal Assembly.

The statement said the Deputy Information Minister explained at the various meetings that plans were on course to fulfil the public-funded university the government promised the people of Brong Ahafo and Volta Regions in the 'Better Ghana' manifesto. He said already preparatory works had begun with all the active partners, including the chiefs, being engaged on land acquisition for the universities. On the economy, Mr Agyenim-Boateng said government's prudent fiscal measures were yielding the desired results with an improvement in import cover, inflation dropping and paying part of the TOR debt inherited from the NPP administration. He said the 'Better Ghana' agenda was on course with agriculture and education as priorities for the government. The Deputy Minister urged the people to take advantage of the on-going Youth in Agriculture Policy in all the 22 municipalities and districts in the Region. He briefed them on the free exercise books, free uniforms, and 50 per cent increase in capitation grant for schools, citing them as some of the achievements of the administration. Mr Agyenim-Boateng later called on Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, Sunyani Omanhene, who lauded President Mills for his leadership qualities. Nana Nkrawiri urged government to quicken work on the Sunyani Municipality ring road. The statement said Mr Agyenim-Baoteng would continue the tour on Tuesday to Goaso, Kenyasi and Bechem to address the respective District Assemblies.
