Tepa (Ash), April 20, GNA-The Ahafo-Ano North District Assembly collected 712.9 million cedis, exceeding the 666.1 million cedis target for the 2004 fiscal year, by 46.8 million cedis.
He said additionally, the assembly received its 1.4 billion cedis common fund, which was in arrears, 2.9 billion cedis from the 2004 common fund, 2.5 billion cedis HIPC benefits and 1.8 billion cedis for Community Water and Sanitation Project.
These were contained in the sectional address by Mr Akwasi Adu-Poku, the District Chief Executive (DCE), at the first general meeting of the assembly for the year, at Tepa on Tuesday. The DCE said the assembly was able to execute all development projects approved for implementation last year, with funds from government, Social Investment Fund (SIF), HIPC, DANIDA and GETFund. These include blocks of classrooms, water, health and sanitation facilities and expansion of electricity.
He said the assembly also awarded scholarships and other forms of financial assistance to 120 secondary school students, 40 teacher trainees, and 18 tertiary students while 631 girls benefited from Girl Child Education Project.
He urged all assembly, town and area council members and heads of department and staff of the district administration to commit themselves to the development of the district.
