Ahanta West District propagates its mission to the people

Agona Nkwanta (W/R) May 21,-GNA-The Ahanta West District Assembly has embarked on an outreach programme to explain policies, programmes and projects of the assembly and the government to the people. The programme is held on Tuesdays in coastal communities because fishermen do not go to sea on that day and on Saturdays and Sundays which are normally resting days in farming communities.

Mr. Jones Amoah, the District Chief Executive, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Agona Nkwanta on Thursday. He said so far, 30 out of about 120 communities in the district have been visited and communities that have benefitted from the programme included Cape Three Points, Egyam, Bokoro, Abura, Ntaakrom and Fentsi. Meanwhile, the district assembly is sponsoring some 80 students in tertiary institutions.

Mr. Amoah said the sponsorship scheme was now focusing on nursing and teacher trainees to ensure that beneficiaries would serve the district after their training.

He said the reason for the sponsorship package was that tertiary education was expensive and most parents had difficulty supporting their wards financially.

Mr. Amoah said the assembly had earmarked 20,000 Ghana Cedis for sponsorship for the 2009/2010 academic year. He urged people in the district who needed sponsorship to attend teacher and nursing training institutions and other tertiary institutions to contact the assembly.

Mr. Amoah said the assembly was establishing a Light Industrial Area at Agona Nkwanta which will accommodate all artisans operating at the various locations in the district capital.

He said the facility would be opened soon as electricity, water, toilet facilities and other amenities have been extended to the area. Mr. Amoah said the assembly has also established an Information Communication Technology Centre (ICT) at Agona Nkwanta to facilitate ICT education in the district.

He said the centre presently has 10 computers and would take delivery of 40 more soon. Mr. Amoah said all is set for the street lighting project at Agona Nkwanta to take off.
