Nyanyanor (C/R), Sept. 18 GNA - The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Thursday presented relief items worth 30 millions cedis to victims of the Elias Asirifi faction of the Saviour Church of Ghana at Gomoa Nyanyanor in the Central Region.

The church got divided following a clash over leadership after the death of the founder Adusei Poku and the case is now pending before a court.

The Elias Asirifi faction in the dispute fled from Osiem in the Eastern Region to Nyanyanor.

The displaced group is made up 312 members made up of 91 children and 221 adults.

The items included tents, students' mattress, blankets, used clothing, bags of rice, cartons of canned fish, plastic plates and cups. The rest are aluminium basins, cartons of powered milk, bags of gari and hygiene kits were to provide temporary shelter and support until a permanent solution is found to the impasse between the two factions. Making the presentation Alhaji Suleimana Yerimea, Deputy National Coordinator of NADMO in-charge of Relief and Settlement, said their main concern was the humanitarian aspect of the problem since it involved the vulnerable, especially women and children.

He said NADMO did not want to be dragged into the conflict since the substantive issue was before the law courts.

Alhaji Yerimea also noted that relief assistance to the conflict victims would last for a period of three months after, which when the problem persisted then they would have to refer it to the security agencies.

Receiving the items the leader of the displaced sect Elias Asirifi Asante thanked NADMO for coming to their aid at the right time. He said for some time now most of their members had been sleeping under trees whiles feeding themselves had become a problem.

Elias Asirifi also appealed to the government to support the financing of education and health of his members particularly the children, who have abandoned their schooling as a result of the clashes.
