Ajumako District Assembly spends 656 million cedis on projects

Ajumako (C/R), Dec. 23, GNA - The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly has spent 656 million cedis on development projects in a number of communities under the Social investment Fund (SIF).

The projects comprised the construction of classroom blocks, KVIP toilets, community clinic, bore holes, furniture and equipment for the people of Enyan Denkyira and Enyan main. Mr Kenneth Obempong, District Chief Executive who made this known to the GNA at Ajumako over the weekend said the people of Enyan Onyaadze and Breman Fawomanye would also benefit from a 20-seater aqua privy and a 16-seater toilet facilities, respectively.

He said the beneficiary communities contributed ten percent, the assembly 15 percent while the SIF contributed 75 percent of the total cost of the projects.

The DCE said the micro-credit scheme of SIF would soon take off and appealed to beneficiary communities to make adequate preparations to meet the funds' requirements. Mr Obempong announced that the United States Agency for International Development was helping four communities in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district to build a school blocks.

The communities are Bisease, Essiam, Awordo and Fawomanye. He said the projects, which fall under the government's Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) are nearing completion and would be inaugurated in January 2004.
