Gomoa Mozano, (C/R) Aug. 17, GNA - The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly has set aside 15,000.00 Ghana Cedis of its 2010 budget for the establishment of a District Regimental Band with the aim of training talented youth in music.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr Peter Light Koomson, said this at the Performance and Certification Day of the School of Music and Cultural Studies at Gomoa Mozano in the Central Region.
Eight successful students who completed their course of study in 2009, were presented with certificates.
"Music has so many parts that man cannot do away with," he said, and therefore advised both students and teachers to take the study of music very seriously.
The DCE called on teachers and students who do not show interest in the teaching and learning of music to change their minds.
The Public Relations Officer of the Gomoa West District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Kingsley Kobina Baidoo, stressed the need for parents to encourage their children to exhibit their hidden talents because every child has a God-given talent.
Mr Baidoo said education was not only the acquisition of book knowledge but ability to put into good use the skills acquired from the knowledge.
The chairman of the Gomoa West District branch of the Private Schools Association, Mr Hayford Quaye, said any type of education that does not conform to the national goal is bogus and must therefore not be entertained.
Mr Hayford advised the graduates to lead an honest, disciplined, patriotic and a moral life.
The Director of the school, The Rev. Hatanidiah Kobina Baa, mentioned the lack of amenities including books, instruments, infrastructure and equipment as some of the challenges facing the school.
She, therefore, appealed to individuals to come to the aid of the school by donating either in cash or in kind.
Nana Duku Ewusie X, Mankrado of Gomoa Adzintem who chaired the function, called on the graduates to be humble in their endeavours.
