Akim State College Holds PTA Meeting

Akyem Oda, March 19, GNA-- Mr Samuel Quaye, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman of Akim State College at Akyem Oda has appealed to parents not to give too much "pocket" money to their wards in second cycle schools.

He said the practice whereby some parents gave as much as two million cedis to their wards in secondary schools tend to undermine discipline in schools.

Mr Quaye, who was speaking at a PTA meeting of the school on Saturday also advised parents not to purchase mobile phones for their wards since they could use such phones to indulge in vices. He charged parents to instil discipline in their children and not to pamper them, adding that the nation needed students who were dedicated, well disciplined and who were prepared at all times to serve the nation.

Nana Yaw Asare Dzikunu, the Director of the school appealed to parents to pay their wards' school fees on time to enable the school to continue to provide quality education for students He said the school would continue to practise open administration and called on parents not to hesitate to call at the school whenever they were confronted with any issue concerning the school. Mr Dzikunu advised the students to justify the huge investments being made in them by their parents by studying hard to lay a solid foundation for the future.

Mr. Eric Kwame Osei, Principal of the school urged parents and teachers to give priority attention to moral education and training. He said the teachers would not only impart knowledge and skills but would also assist the students to acquire the attributes of moral uprightness such as honesty, truthfulness and integrity 19 March 06
