Akim State College in excellent performance

Akim Oda, Mar. 10, GNA - A Senior High Court Registrar, Mr Joseph K. Tawiah, has appealed to teachers to appreciate and discharge the enormous responsibility that goes with their profession as agents for developing the human resource of the country.

He reminded them that it was through the example of their own lives as role models that they would be in a position to bear witness to discharge their responsibility in helping to find solutions to the growing moral decadence in the society.

Mr Tawiah was interacting with staff of the Akim State College at Akim Oda on Thursday when he led a four-member delegation of the board of governors of the school to congratulate them on their work, which enabled the school to excel in last year's Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Out of the 129 students the school presented, 91 of them passed in 6-8 subjects representing 70.5 per cent resulting in the school taking the first position among second-cycle schools in the Birim South District.

Mr Tawiah urged teachers not to over look the issue of moral education and training, adding, "you should not only impart knowledge and skills, but should also assist students to acquire the attribute of moral uprightness."

At a separate meeting with the students, Mr Tawiah reminded them that their future was in their own hands and therefore they should study hard.

He, therefore, advised them to take advantage of the opportunity available to them in the school system so as to lay a solid foundation for their future.

The Vice Principal of the College, Mr Eric Osei, on behalf of the staff, thanked the delegation for recognizing their hard work but appealed to the board to consider increasing their remuneration to help retain the good teachers.

The proprietor of the College, Nana Yaw Asare Dzikunu, urged the teachers to continue to work harder for the development of human and material resources of the area.

He used the opportunity to advise students to guard against all acts of indiscipline and rather use established channels of communication to seek redress to any grievances they may have.
