Akrofuom NPP sensitising women for effective campaign

Ampunyase (Ash), Sept 17, GNA - The Akrofuom Constituency of the NPP has initiated a programme to educate members of the Women Wing to play an active role in the campaign towards the December 2004 elections. The programme would be used to introduce the Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Mr Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah, to the electorate. Designed to sensitise the communities on national and local issues towards achieving peaceful elections.

It is expected that by the end of September, all the communities within the six zones of the constituency would have been covered. Speaking at Ampunyase on Monday, Mr Appiah-Pinkrah reminded women of their roles, responsibilities and opportunities under the gender, children and early childhood care policies of the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs.

He said when voted to parliament, he would rely on the concept of teamwork to develop the area, stating, "You should not see me as the sole agent of development. Rather, the development of this constituency is a collective responsibility", he stressed.

Mr Appiah-Pinkrah reminded the people of the NPP's commitment to tolerance and peaceful co-existence with its opponents, saying, "We as a party will not encourage physical attacks, enmity, insults and character defamation".

Miss Elizabeth Obeng, Constituency Women's Organiser, advised the people to reject politicians who peddled lies only for their votes. She explained that the government of the NPP was sensitive to the plight of rural communities and appealed to the people to vote the party back to power.

Miss Obeng urged women to stand up against acts that could destabilise the country's peace.

The Campaign Manager of the parliamentary candidate, Mr Baffour Awuah, charged supporters of the party campaign on the good works of the Government over the past three-and-half years to win more people into the fold of the party.
