Akropong-Akwapem, July 14, GNA - "Help for Ghana", an Austria-based non-governmental organisation on Thursday presented 15 computers and their accessories to the School for the Blind at Akropong-Akwapem. At the ceremony, "Boafo Ye Na" Association, a Ghanaian UK-based benevolent society presented 50 million cedis cash to the school. Nana Odoso II, Chief of Akropong-Akuapem, presented the computers and accessories on behalf of "Help for Ghana" while Mr Owusu Agyekum, Chairman of "Boafo Ye Na" Association, presented the cash. Mr Agyekum said the association, formed by Ghanaians resident in UK 10 years ago with 40 members, was making its first presentation to the school and the country.
He assured other institutions in the country of assistance in future.
Mr Appiah Lartey, Assistant Headmaster of the school, who received the donations, thanked the two associations for the gesture and pledged that they would be put into good use to improve teaching and learning in the school.
He appealed for the supply of Braille papers and establishment of an Internet facility at the school to enable the students be abreast with Information, Communication Technology (ICT). Mr Albert Osei, Akropong North District Director of Education, appealed to the teachers to utilise the computers efficiently and effectively for the benefit of the students. Mr Edward Badu Aboagye, Akropong North District Chief Executive, expressed appreciation to the donors and appealed to the teachers to take good care of the computers.
He said Government would promulgate the Disability Act because of its conviction that disability should not be equated with inability but such persons should be assisted to lead meaningful and sustainable life for national development.
