Mr George Opare-Addo, Akuapem North District Chief Executive, (DCE) on Thursday presented motorbikes to 77 members of the Assembly at Akropong Akuapem.
He said the presentation of the items were in fulfilment of a promise by President Mills to facilitate the work of assembly members, promising, “The delivery of the motorbikes is a sign of good things to happen to assembly members.”
Mr Opare-Addo said the President was committed to building and strengthening of State Institutions and the decentralization process.
He urged the assembly members not to sell the motorbikes or use them for other purposes than the assembly’s work and expressed the hope that they would be more committed to their duties.
Mr Meshach Asiedu Larbi, an assembly member, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the President for the gesture, explaining that some members had to commute a distance of more than five kilometres to meet with their people.
He said during emergencies, assembly members found it difficult to move swiftly to support the people they represented because of the lack of means of transportation.
Mr Isaac Ansah, a government appointee of the assembly and chairman of the Finance Committee, said all the motorbikes had been registered and duly insured to enable the recipients to use them immediately.
