Accra, Feb.21, GNA-Households in Akumanjan, a suburb of Accra are to benefit from a 150-dollar government support to enable residents to have access to places of convenience.
Mr Raymond Ntoana Tettey, Assembly Member, Ngleshie Electoral Area disclosed this on Tuesday at a meeting to enable residents to quiz him on issues of development.
Mr Tettey said under the programme, each household would be required to provide a piece of land for the construction of places of convenience in order to help address the deplorable sanitary situation in the area.
He observed that there were inadequate places of convenience in the area adding, "I hope this would help each household have access to places of convenience."
Mr Tettey noted that majority of the youth in the area were unemployed and called on them to register under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), in order to earn their livelihood and also reduce anti-social activities in the area.
"I am in contact with the Ministry of Manpower and Employment to help address the problem of unemployment" he said.
Mr Yaw Adjei Appiah, Public Relations Officer, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, noted that the level of development in the area was low and urged the residents to initiate self-development projects in order to enjoy government's support.
He observed that poverty was rife in the area and called on the youth to engage in gainful employment.
Nii Ayikai III, chief of Akumanjan, called on the people to help by contributing their quota towards the development of the area. Nii Ayikai urged the people to resolve their differences and called on them to support the Assembly Member.
He thanked the Assembly Member for initiating the meeting and hoped that it became a routine event.
