The Ministry of the Interior has renewed the curfew imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya townships for the second successive month.

On the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, the Ministry directed that the curfew took effect from Friday, December 13, 2013.

The curfew hours remained 6pm to 6am, a release read on TV3’s News 360 on Saturday said.

Directives appear to be the same as last month’s, as government urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the people of the areas affected to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, and to use non-violent means in the resolution of their conflict and disputes.

A ban on all persons in the two towns and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon was placed and it still holds.

The two towns have been engaged in a longstanding land dispute, but efforts at resolving it seem to be yielding fruits.
